Automotive Digital Transformation

The replacement of most mechanical components with electrical and electronic components, the disruption of the production process, the sensors, the connection, the increasing use of artificial intelligence, are the elements that characterize the radical transformation of this industrial segment, due to the impact of digital technologies.

Even the supply chain will be heavily impacted by this revolution: contractors who today produce transmission belts, mufflers, radiators, clutches and other components will have to be the subject of new industrial policies. Just as the dealership of the future will be radically transformed, because the business model will also have to include the sale of the continuous updates that the software will make available.

The digital car will be equipped with custom application functions, just like other devices that are part of our daily life, such as the computer or the smart phone. Platforms equipped with hardware and software of which the operating system, open or closed, is the fulcrum.

This is what emerged during the conference that we organized in Modena on November 18th, Lessons about future: Automotive meets digital”, where important exponents of the sector, such as the Director of UNRAE Andrea Cardinali, spoke; the well-known former Ferrari designer Marco Fainello, actually CTO of Danisi Engineering and Partner & Executive Director of Addfor and Gianni Catalfamo, CEO of One Wedge.

This debate on issues related to the revolution of the sector, was followed by a round table moderated by journalist M. Cristina Ceresa, Director of Green Planner Magazine and journalist of Sole24ore. Representatives of sectors that have already experienced the path of digital transformation, with the aim of bringing evidence of how it has been addressed and what impacts has had in the different business models: Alberto Yates, Country Manager Italy Booking.com, Damiano Airoldi, Founder & CEO of Magnetic Media and curator of the Apple Technology Museum, Enzo Mazza, CEO of FIMI.
